RBC Borealis

Founded by Royal Bank of Canada in 2016, Borealis AI is a curiosity-driven research centre headquartered in Toronto, with labs in Montreal, Vancouver, and Waterloo. The team advances foundational machine learning—deep learning, NLP, computer vision, reinforcement learning, and graph mining—while applying those breakthroughs to real-world financial services challenges.

Unilever Horizon3 Labs

Launched in November 2023, Unilever Horizon3 Labs is Unilever’s global AI lab based in Toronto. The lab accelerates AI adoption across Unilever’s worldwide operations, with research focused on advanced forecasting, graph-based modelling of complex systems, and generative AI for large-scale insight discovery.

Fujitsu Co-Creation Research Laboratory

A joint R&D hub between Fujitsu Research and the University of Toronto, this lab advances quantum-inspired computing, including Fujitsu’s Digital Annealer. Research targets complex optimization challenges in AI and operations research—such as scheduling, constraint satisfaction, and energy-system design—accelerating practical solutions to real-world problems.

Samsung AI Centre

Established at the MaRS Discovery District, this research node is part of Samsung Research’s global AI-centre network. The lab advances core AI technologies—including on-device intelligence, multimodal learning, and vision-language models—designed for integration across Samsung’s product portfolio, from consumer electronics to automotive systems.

LG Electronics AI Research Lab

In partnership with the University of Toronto, LG Electronics launched its Toronto AI research lab in 2018 under a five-year multimillion-dollar agreement. The lab focuses on enterprise AI, smart devices, manufacturing intelligence, robotics, and process optimization, leveraging Canada’s strengths in foundational AI research and talent development.

Sanofi AI Centre of Excellence

In 2022, Sanofi opened its Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence in Toronto, joining its global network of digital hubs. The centre develops data and AI products that accelerate R&D, improve patient access to medicines, and strengthen health-sector innovation, drawing on expertise in data science, computational biology, and AI engineering.

IBM Technology Expert Labs

The IBM Technology Expert Labs expand Canada’s technical capacity in generative AI, automation, data and AI, hybrid cloud, and cybersecurity. Based at IBM Canada’s Markham campus—home to the country’s largest software development lab—the team supports clients across Canada and global markets.

NVIDIA Spatial Intelligence Lab

Part of NVIDIA’s global research footprint, this Toronto-based lab focuses on foundational technologies that enable AI systems to perceive and interact with the physical world, including scene understanding and spatial AI. Formerly the Toronto AI Lab, it integrates expertise across vision, physics simulation, and autonomous systems research.
